This is what will happen in a typical Cupping appointment:

First there will be an analysis of the area of concern and a treatment plan will be decided.   Then cups will be applied strategically directly to the skin based on the condition being treated.  You are always covered by a sheet except for the area being treated.  The cups will remain in the area for an average of 5-20 minutes, depending on the treatment and skin reaction.  Moving cups may also be used, depending on diagnosis made. Treatments can vary as they are customized for each client.

Most patients will only experience “a slight pinching sensation” or on rare occasions slight temporary itchiness during treatment.

No physical trauma (only possible cupping marks) is expected after treatment.  Cupping marks that sometimes occur during and after cupping therapy are the waste products, toxins, stagnant fluids, known in Chinese medicine as "poisons" or "bad chi" that are brought from deep in the tissue to the surface for clearing by your lymphatic system.

These possible resulting cupping or “bruising” mark from the skin being sucked up can on average last from a few minutes to a week (for those with very sensitive skin).

Here are some POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF CUPPING AND GUA SHA TREATMENTS :

-Dark circles (usually painless) is actually a sign that the therapy is helping to release deep-seated blockages and toxins.         They usually fade within a week.

-Itchy skin on area of cup placements.  It is due to changes in microcirculation and vasodilators. Do not scratch, this is only temporary.

 -Light-headedness

 -Extreme thirst

-Some tenderness where the cups were applied

- Some redness in the area of Gua sha Treatment, it should disappear in a few minutes to a few days (for very sensitive skin)

On rare occasions, some may experience tiredness, headache, slight body ache or flu-like symptoms. These are temporary reactions by the immune system to the cellular waste that cupping helps release.
